Well I am finally getting around to crimping the trim motor wires to the Molex micro-fit d-sub pins that are part of the new improved trim motor tray/connectors. I found this reference on crimping d-sub pins:

I called the Ray Allen Co. and they stated that the five wires from the trim motor are 26 gauge and that they can be doubled over and crimped as 24 gauge.

I called Molex and they make a custom hand crimper available from Mouser for only $296.26! If you have lots of money lying around the part # is Molex 638190000.

So I ordered the Waldon WHT1921 hand crimper from Avery Tools at $16.95. Hope it works.

Our SAT-018 ($31) seems to work pretty well for them.....better than the others we've tried and customers who've tried them seem to like them just fine as well!

To be blunt, the Waldon tool is not a very good one at all, those types of crimpers or strippers should almost universally be avoided in their entirety. As for a reference on crimping D-Sub pins, stick with something from Aeroelectric or aircraft related. The aformentioned guide is kinda/sort barely ok, but not necessarily relative to the pins being used in your connectors. The Molex Pins are not DSub pins as the Dsub pins in your kit are solid machined contacts (not open barrel) whereas the Molex pins are open barrel.

As mentioned, soldering is acceptable if done properly, but no need for heatshrink over them since they are typically inserted into a connector shell. Just make sure you have the "ears" crimped or folded over before you solder them. They should not remain completely open.
