Mating surface gap question

When mating two surfaces is there a minimum spec for how much space can be between the two parts? I was riveting the angles to the firewall and noticed that there is a .008 in gap (by feeler gauge) between the rivets. I am countersinking the remaining pieces deeper to minimize this gap but was wondering if I need to drill out the angle I already have riveted on.

Thanks

Update: I countersunk the holes another .004 or 4 clicks on the microstop and the parts are still coming up with a small gap (about .004=.006). I am already near knife edging the angles and don't really feel too comfortable going any deeper.
