Lycoming Special Tool ST-289

While installing SDS O-ring Sealed Induction Tube Flanges I noticed #6 cylinder sump tube (IO-540) that connects to the intake tube via a short nitrile hose was easily rotated by hand. It’s normally swaged/fixed in place. New tool from ACS is $2349-a no go for me. Any advice on where I might be able to rent this tool? Phone calls to Ross and Lycoming planned for Monday. Red Loctite?

Intake pipe

You will probably need to remove the sump and send it to a specialty shop for repair. Divco in Tulsa may be able to repair it

I rented the intake tube swaging tool from Zephyr in Florida several years ago. I had to place a refundable deposit $1K, but the rental itself wasn't particularly expensive. You can re-swage the intake tube(s) with the engine installed and without removing the sump.
