RV14A, Lycoming IO-390 Thunderbolt
I spent the weekend trimming the top and bottom cowlings to fit to the fuselage. I trimmed to the scribe lines and they fit nicely at the forward fuselage cabin skins at the firewall.
The problem I have is that the forward face of the cowlings - right behind the spinner backplate both top and bottom, are pressed tightly against the spinner backplate.
There is supposed to be about a 3/16” clearance there.
This might require trimming the back edges of the cowlings another 3/16”, but that may cause other issues - so I am not going to do that without some clear direction form Van’s.
It might be something entirely different. I have gone back over propeller installation and everything seems per instructions.
Looking for any other RV14A builders who have fitted the cowlings to a 390 Thunderbolt?
