Louvers

Here we go. A little mod.
Vans includes a set of Louvers for the cowl. Several builders told me they are taped closed in Winter and open Summer.
Antisplat makes a control to open/close. I didn't want the extra control or the mechanism for something seldom adjusted. My solution is a gate. Simple to change from the outside. The gate is a 3 layer fiberglass layup. Pretty simple.
If it doesn't work, I can always remove them.
Adjustment is done by loosening the screws and using a pen or pick in the tiny hole (top vent) to slide the gate to the desired position. Anything from open to closed. The gate has slots to allow full movement from open to closed. Tighten the screws and the sandwich is held tight to the cowl. I also plan to add Dan's airflow mod so it remains to be seen if the louvers or gate are effective.
Three photos of the Port side louver.
Outside closed, outside open, inside.
Yes, it's bugly. I still have to prep parts for paint. The gray primer is just rattle can for the photos.

Interesting take Larry. Should work as long as vibration can't move it. What is Dan's airflow mod?

No way. Once the screws are tight it would take a hammer to move it.
I think Andy Crabtree (crabandy) came up with an air flow mod. Basically a rounded part that smooths the air flow exit at the exhaust/firewall exit area.
