Longeron fit to VS bars

OK I have put of the work on the longerons as long as possible and I now must finish them to continue. The bending is done, but I have one question about cutting the slots in the longeron to fit around the VS attache bars. The instruction say to line up the aft deck at the end of the spar and use it as a template.

The question is, has anyone had any fit problems cutting the slots that way resulting in a bad fit farther forward (assuming correct measurement and location according to plans)?

Instructions are correet

If you have done everything so far per the instructions fabricating the longerons you should not have any problems. The dimension provided from the aft end of the longeron to the HS attach bar cut out is good. I cut mine per the prints and when I was all done drilling them to the skins I still had to cut off about 3/16" at the firewall end.

Brice,

My downward angle of the forward longeron matched perfectly with the side skin, forward of the F-704 bulkhead. I matched it to the side skin while the skin was laying on the floor. Much easier than waiting until it is on the fuse, IMHO. Here's some pics of how I matched the longeron up with the side skin:

I found when everything was put together, the twist needed to be a little bit more to match up with the firewall brackets.

On your first question, I used the aft deck as a template for the notching of the longerons. I documented it with lots of pics here:

Good luck. It takes a lot of patience to get through these longerons. Take breaks when you get frustrated and sit back and see whats really going on. It could save you an expensive shipment from Van's!

PS - FYI, I am building an -7, but the fuse is pretty much identical to the -9.
