long gear

i've recently purchased a rv-4 with tall gear, i've had a rv-4 before with short and i'm noticing the longer gear doesn't fly as fast. any comments or has anyone flown both and can speak on this subject.

Long gear & speed

Dan,

I'm on my second RV-4 and changed over to the longer gear. I changed the first one to the longer, stouter gear also.

IMO, it is something other than the gear that is making the speed difference. Hey, no two RV are going to be exactly the same.

Without a lot of other info....I just don't think one can attribute the difference to "longer gear". It is about 1/8" larger in diameter and a couple inches longer.....definitely heavier; but you're not talking about a great difference.....I hate to only blame the difference on the gear.
