Lightning protection

I have been reading the VAF forums for some time and it is my first post.

I have decided to build an RV-7 (I didn't start yet).

I plan to do some long IFR flights because my work is 1100 nm far from my home. I have always been worried with lightning strikes and I did some research on this subject on internet and found an interesting video from Cessna Aircraft Co. After watching it I saw how small aircrafts are unprotected regarding lightning strikes.
