leaking access ports in front

Some folks with sliders have put access hatches on the front top skin behind the firewall to access avionics that are behind the firewall (not wanting to lay on their backs with their feet in the air). I have seen photos and descriptions in other threads. I would like to know what problems there are with leakage in the rain or washing the airplane and what sealants people are using. I should be cutting metal in a week.

I did that on my 7a, using RTV as a sealant, and have had no issues with leaking. That being said, I haven't found the access panels all that useful in my case, and if I were to do it all over again I wouldn't bother. To each his own however.
