IO-540 Fuel Pump Question

JDanno

Well Known Member
on the engine driven fuel pump there is a threaded opening on the side that is mid way on the side of the housing. On the other IO-540s I've looked at, they have also left the port open. What's the purpose of it?? Inquiring minds want to know! Thanks, Dan

Fuel drain in case the diaphragm ruptures, keeps fuel out of the crankcase were it will contaminate the oil.

Put a short length of alum line on it, point it down and away from the exhaust pipes.

See section FF4, pages 1 and 2.

Pump Drain

It also needs a hose on it to get the fuel out of the cowl in case a diaphragm ruptures. Most setups have a 1/4" rubber fuel hose sticking out the bottom cowl, usually near the firewall away from the exhaust.
