Internal settings for Garmin SL 40 radio

I've been dealing with radio/intercom issues for a while and would like to know what are the best settings that are made using the Menu that lets you adjust gain, squelch etc...thanks

Not sure how your system is put together (using internal SL-40 intercom, or external intercom?). Mine has a single SL-40 directly connected to a PS Engineering PM 1000-II intercom (No audio panel in the system.). Here are my settings:

Headphone Level: 0
Mic Squelch 1: 62
Mic Squelch 2: Not used
Transmit: Mic 1
Intercom: Not used
Sidetone Level: 80
Low Level Display: 0
High Level Display: 50

Squelch and sidetone are the 2 settings you need to play with. Yours may need to be slightly different than these.
