I cracked off the male part

I cracked off the male part of my dimple dies

The red arrow is to the broken one the blue arrow is to the new one I ordered from Avery.

Has anyone ever had this happen? I'm guessing this is just fatigue from hitting it a billion times..

...if you you use a C-frame dimple machine and do not have the dies lined up.
Adjust the plate on the base to ensure that the die drops exactly into the dimple ensuring no side load on the male bit...

Yes, I had this happen also...

... with the 3/32 set after about 5,000 dimples. Bought another one from Avery and finished the plane with the second one. The failure occurred with the male die set in a rivet gun (I don't remember why I was doing it that way...probably because I couldn't use the squeezer). After the "lesson learned", I never placed the die in the gun after that. Or does that make it a "lesson incomplete..."?

I did the exact same thing. I ground down one edge of the now extra female die for use in tight spots, which has proved very useful.
