Here's A Silly Little Question

The metal ID plate that has to be attached to the aft part of the plane showing manufacturer, model, serial nr, etc, also has a place for DATE OF MFG.

What is the date of manufacure? Is it the date you get an airworthiness certificate, or perhaps the date you say, "It's done!" - or is it a more or less general date you expect it to be done?

Perhaps Mel could enlighten me (us)

Officially the date of manufacture is the date of issuance of the airworthiness certificate. It is NOT required on the dataplate. Many people use the month and year. Some people put nothing.
The only required information on the dataplate is Make, model and serial number. This information MUST exactly match the registration.

Date of Mfg

thanks for the info, Mel. Can always count on you for the offical work. Tnx

Mel,
Van's lists a date of manufacture on the form 8130-15 Light Sport Aircraft Statement of Compliance (box 4).

The date that Van's puts on the 8130-15 is the date the form is signed. You can use anything you like. As far as FAA is concerned, the date of manufacture is the date of certification.

It might be interesting to some that the "manufacturer" of the RV-12, E-LSA is Van's Aircraft, INC. and not the guy who built it. The actual builder is a "licensee" to build an E-LSA.
