Kinda depends whether you are building new or adding/updating to an existing plane. On my new build I mounted it horizontally, in front of the sub panel and below the front ribs, sort of above my left knee, per se. Here I could slide the unit in and out of the mounting bracket if needed.

Behind the baggage compartment might be easier to access in an existing build, but more wiring...
