GTR 205 vs 200B

Inquiring minds and so forth, as I am getting close to needing to order avionics, does anybody have any insight into whether the RV-12 Garmin Suite kit will start using the GTR205 instead of the GTR 200B? Price increase I presume to come.

However, both versions of the 205 are TSO'd so the 205x can actually be installed in a type certificated aircraft at the lower price. Per regulation no matter what Garmin thinks. I don't get why they have the more expensive 205 without intercom or Bluetooth and then the cheaper 205x with all the goodies. I bought a 205 at the Pacific Coast Avionics booth at Oshkosh for a family member's Cherokee. We have another one already operating in a local Cessna 170. Seems to work great.

The 205 doesn’t have an intercom like the 200 does. The 205 seems more suited as a second radio.
Good Morning Bob,

Both the GTR 205X and 205xR have a built in 2 place intercom, which functions the same as the GTR 200/20.

Thanks,
Justin

Justin, can you please clarify if there’s a 205, 205x, and a 205xR? My response was based upon what I recall having read about the “205”. Thanks.

There are 3 versions of the new COM radios available:

- GTR 205: TSO certified COM radio part #010-02480-01
- GTR 205x: COM radio that does not receive TSO authorization part #010-03395-01
- GTR 205xR: Remote COM radio that does not receive TSO/STC authorization and interfaces with G3X Touch part #010-03396-01

Yes, these are the same base hardware platforms (similar to many other experimental and certificated like-products), with some minor software differences/enhancements and approvals. In regard to the feature set differences of the certificated vs non-certificated versions of the radios, expanded features will be possible with future versions of the certificated software as they are approved.

B/R,

B/R,
How about that. The Garmin guy at the OSH tent was wrong when he stated all versions were TSO'd.
