GPS at Altitude

I shot the following photo of my GPS on my way back from Idaho a couple weeks ago. Hopefully it motivates those still building!

It reads: 153 kts, 13,300' MSL, 2330 RPM.

Photo was taken north of Page, AZ on a nearly direct line between Bryce Canyon, UT and Albuquerque, NM. I was up high in an attempt to get away from the turbulence that was beating the pooh out of me down low.

Crossing the Continental Divide last week at 11500. 2450rpm, 8.4gph, I think I was doing 178KTAS, but was loving the 220kt ground speed.

I don't think it is. I think it is a reflection of something and not the IAS pointer.

It looks like the ASI needle is right about 137kts (about 1/4 of the tip appears to be visible in the original image)

On every other cross country flight except this one I run LOP. At 25-50 LOP settings I typically see 150-160 MPH TAS, CHT temp range 280-295, EGT temp range 1360-1390, fuel burn around 7.0-7.5 GPH.

This flight was on our trip to SnF 2011. This was Saturday afternoon around 5:00pm as we were racing to outrun a storm front. We were flying from Jackson, MS to Destin, FL in hopes of getting in front of the storm front. Yes, this was the weekend before the SnF tornado. We had to work really really hard to make it to SnF that year. If we had only known what the future held for us we might have made totally different decisions that day. As it stands, history has it we ended up making it to SnF and were faced with enduring serious tornado damage to our brand new airplane the following Thursday.

So, on this particular flight trying to get as much speed as we could out of the plane I was running 50 ROP and balls to the wall. We were cruising at 9500 feet. You might notice the RPM wrapped up to 2780, fuel burn of 10.1 GPH, hottest CHT @ 354, hottest EGT @ 1386 and a groundspeed of 219 MPH. All intriguing numbers but one that I find the most intriguing is in the far left bottom corner of the GRT EFIS on the right. This is my engine page for the EFIS. The box that is second from the bottom in the left corner shows the MPG. It is hard to read but it shows 21.7 MPG. That is 21.7 MPG traveling 219 MPH. Now, I can live with that!
