Fuel Tank slosh removal

Stan Lawrence

I'm New Here
I have a Friend, Tenley Ong, who purchased a RV-6 N2165U, the sloshed tanks are starting to flack off and needs to removed. Looking for any advice on how to remove all the slosh material. I understand that at one time Van’s had some type kit for slosh removal.

I can't remember off-hand, but the RV-6 fuel tanks have six (plus or minus one) bays. You'll need one of these kits per bay, or you can make the part yourself - it is basically an aluminum disk you use to cover the round hole you cut in the aft baffle of each bay.

Kit from Van's (backordered):

The procedure is to use a big hole saw or a flycutter to cut access holes, clean out the slosh, then rivet the repair parts on (with proseal) to cover the holes you cut.

Here's a thread that shows you the process:

Slosh Removal

I cut the holes in the tank per above treads and used MEK to remove the slosh. After about 3-4 years leaks started showing up here and there that I could not stop. Wound up removing the rear tank baffle and did a complete strip and reseal. No more slosh or leaks.......
