Fuel Tank Removal

One of my wing tanks has a flop tube and the tank will have to be removed
to replace the fuel level sending unit. The wings are currently off the plane.
Will it be best to remove tank while the wings are off or does it really make
any difference?

I just repaired a small leak to the left tank of my 6A. Either way will be fine. Mine did not have a flop tube so access was from the wing root end through the access panel. If the flop tube access is next to the spar I guess the tank has to come off but my fuel probe was mounted in the access panel itself.

We're probably going to pull our left tank to replace a faulty left fuel gauge (infant mortality) - might as well do it before it goes to the paint shop! We're not going to pull the wing to do it, and I don't anticipate any problems,

You mention that the wings are currently off the plane, so i would think it is the ideal time to remove the tanks.

If you set the wing up in such a manner as the leading edge is upward, then gravity will be your friend, and you will have an easier time managing the tank when the last bolt/screw comes out, and when you go to re-install the tank.

Thanks for the replies. I will probably put them on the plane first as I
don't have a good way to hold them, only saw horses.
