Fuel tank and inspections

It does not seem logical to me to have to remove the Fuel tank to get to inspection plates behind and under. I see no other way. Am I wrong?

Yep! The way it's designed, the tank must be removed for inspections.

Not the way I would have done it.

Here's a comment from Ken Kreuger on the need to remove the fuel tank.

"We have designed the aircraft for simplicity and that is why we did not have a multi-piece access panel. Also all our structural tests were done with the "as-designed" panel installed. For annual condition inspections, the fuel tank should be removed anyway so our thought was that anything more was needlessly adding cost, complexity, and weight.

For a simple visual inspection, the upper panel screws can be removed with the tank in place and only the upper portion of the access panel peeled forward to take a look inside. If actual work needs to be done, it would be difficult indeed to work in the baggage area with the tank in place and it would also be difficult to squeeze one's body past the tank and into the tailcone."

Cheers...Keith
