A few people have claimed to need a ground wire. Most do not. There should be sufficient ground through the airframe.
Mine have been working fine for almost 24 years without it.
Might depend on what you are using to display it. IIRC my EFIS (G3X) requires a hi and lo input from the sender. My wiring harness from Stein came with shielded 2-conductor wire for the senders so I wired the hi input to the center screw and the lo to one of the mounting screws.
