Flap Rod Bearing

Just a note for those at the flap drive assembly stage.

Well, I assume it was probably something I did, but when I was doing a stop-n-go at Arlington yesterday, I attempted to bring the flaps up, they raised about half way, then dropped to full down. Needless to say, that ended the flight. I have about 11.5 on the airplane.

I pulled the flap drive covers and found the safety wire had broken, and the flap drive shaft had un-screwed itself from the rod end bearing. Bummer, at least it was easily fixed.

In looking at this, I had used .021 safety wire as it would fit through the hole in the drive shaft. Possibly, the jam nut hadn't been tightened as much as possible since the shaft does turn inside the drive. This time around I did get the jam nut tightened but was able to use .040 wire to secure. Hopefully this holds more than 10 hours.
