FIT OF METAL FUEL CAPS

Is there an installation sheet for the metal fuel cap? The metal caps as received are loose compared to the plastic caps now installed.
I am sure tightening the lock nut will tighten the caps. Is there a measurement or do you simply firm up the fit by eye and feel?

I tightened the nut until I couldn’t close the lid and then backed off just until I could close it.
