First Flight - Rob and Kelly's RV-10

RV10Rob

Well Known Member
Hi, all... after three years, six months, and one week, our RV-10 finally had its first flight on Saturday! Rob took off from runway 34L at Paine Field, climbed to 3000 feet, circled the airport for 15 minutes, then landed uneventfully. Despite some nerves, the flight was a success. Only 39.75 more hours to go until the test period is complete and Kelly can ride, too!

Our RV-10 is powered by an Aero Sport Power IO-540-D4A5 (260 hp), Silver Hawk EX FI system, with a slick mag on bottom and Light Speed Plasma III on top. The instrument panel has a Dynon D100 EFIS, Dynon D120 EMS, Garmin GNS 430 GPS, and panel-mounted Garmin GPSMAP 696. Interior by Flightline Interiors. Our tail number is 819K: 8/19 is our wedding anniversary, and K is for "Kelly" (according to her).

P.S. (from Rob) The airplane was definitely my passion, but there's no way I could have done it without Kelly. She put up with more than I could ever ask for and kept me sane during the low points of the building, but she also took it a step further. These pictures really show it was a team effort. http://kochman.net/KellyAirplane/

Tell Kelly....

...that I really, really admire her enthusiasm and intense concentration on everything! What a woman! You're a very lucky man!

Congratulations,

Nice work,

The workmanship or should I say workwomanship looks great! Very nice to have someone you really like working with you and as excited to get it done and flying.

Kelly did a great job and deserves the 'K' on the number. It's really nice of her to let you fly it. I'm assuming you must have helped her with the building... ;)

Congrats on the first flight.

Congrats Rob! I've seen the plane up close, and workmanship is awesome. Gonna be an excellent family SUV.

Team Effort???

These pictures really show it was a team effort. http://kochman.net/KellyAirplane/

Rob,

Judging from your pictures, it looks like she did ALL the work! :D:D LOL I guess, like me, you tend to be the picture taker in the family... Great job, and congrats to both of you. My wife and I just recieved our emp kit the other day and will be embarking on our own journey very soon. Thanks for sharing.

Mike

Great job.

Good job you guys, is that not one of the best days ever?

Hopefully we will see you guys and the plane at Oshkosh this year or maybe another San Juan trip. For you guys that is just a 5 minute flight though. I think I would head to Roche Harbor for breakfast every Saturday if I lived there.

Great job again and have a blast.

Congratulations

Congratulations Rob & Kelly

Rob and Kelly,

Congratulations! I see you are local, and we have the same home airport. Have you ever stopped by our facilities?

I will look for you at Paine to say hi. (I won't say "hope to run into you". :) )

Thanks, all... it's definitely a lot of fun. I can't believe we don't have a pic of the RV grin. It's there, trust me :)

Scott, I heard we just missed you at Arlington either last year or two years ago. Let us know if you're up here again.

Robert, yes, we live about a mile from your office. I've stopped by a couple times to pick up things (for the airplane and also have one of the Digital Aquatics systems my aquarium). I'm really liking the "legacy" system, but of course wish I'd waited for the Skyview.
