Fiberglass work

Rick B.

Member
I'm at the point where I'd like to try some fibeerglass work. I'm thinking that installing the tips on the HS, VS, rudder, and elevator are a good place to start. I understand the method of attachment but the materials and techniques to use to make a finished look are confusing to me.

What type of fiberglass resin should I use?
What type of filler?
Is it proper to install the tips and then apply filler and sand it off? won't that damage the AL coating on the adjacent skin?
Is there a step by step in the forums with pictures?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Rick,
Welcome to VAF. Many of us use West Systems products available through
Aircraft spruce. Try the search function at the top of the forums page.
DanH is a fiberglass guru. You can search by topic or name of poster.
Good luck.

Search for this phrase "Tip: Fiberglass Fabrication"

Grab a coffee and Dan will lead through the process. Quite a lot to absorb, and whilst it may look too advanced at the outset (building a fairing from scratch), the process is laid out before you, with descriptions, products and images.
