F-1081 Left Baggage Cover and Step Access

Lynnb

Well Known Member
As I was reading ahead in the plans and looking at my QB Fuselage, I noticed that the nutplates were already riveted onto the F-1034C-L angle. The plans call for these to be riveted through the F-1081 baggage cover. As I held the cover in place, I noticed it would hamper being able to get a socket on the Step bolt if I needed to in the future. So I was wondering if builders who leave access to the step bolt just leave this cover out, or am I missing something?

Most of us put in an access panel in the F-1022A-L & R baggage floors directly above the bolt for the step. I think mine was 4" x 4".

Does the F-1081 not cover the side edge of your access panel? When I cleco it in place it sits well over the bolt hole.

yes

Yes, the edge will be covered. I did not put the access panels in...though I might wish that I had. Instead, I used a long drill bit to locate and drill a hole in the bottom skin, then clecoed the floor on and ran the drill up throughout the bottom hole and through the floor panel. If I ever need to remove the step bolt, I will know right where to drill. The top hole is covered by the side panel and I will put a plug in the bottom hole.

I also used the tcwtech.com step bushings:
