Engine Control Cables Question

I'm New Here
I have tried to run the control cables on the cabin firewall side of the rudder bars and they come up shore on the firewall forward side. If I run the control cables on the aft side of the rudder bars how do you take up the slack in the cables?
 
Chuck,

The cables are to run from the panel and S-turn down to the firewall, aft of the rudder bar. That way they go through the firwall straight.

Don't forget to slide the little cover plate over the cables before putting them in for the last time.

(Sorry, I don't have a good picture of the installation.)
