Just a point to bring up. Hopefully, you will never need the use of an ELT. For search and rescue, the new 406 ELT can make a significant difference in locating a downed aircraft. If you obstuct the antenna, you reduce the transmission capability. You may think the ELT antenna looks ugly, or the one knot speed loss is not acceptable, but that antenna may be a life changer. Fortunately I have never needed the use of my ELT, but I have knowledge when it comes to searching for an aircraft down.
