Elevator trim

Well Known Member
We seam to recall reading that the second trim tab on the elevator was to adjust for the pitch change when applying flaps. If this is the case how are the two connected as in operation? If not what is the purpose of the second trim tab?

The trim tabs are connected to the same servo and operate in unison. My guess for the dual trim tab is because of the size of the elevators.

There has been a lot of prior discussion on this.

Try doing a search or two, here in the -10 forum-----go back to the start of the forum, dont limit the time frame.

Basically in nut shell, the original design had one tab coupled to the flaps----(this is from Mel), and that didnt work out as planned, so they just hooked both flaps up to the same bell crank, without doing a total re design.

This resulted in the tabs going through a lot of monkey motion in the travel, looks really strange.

But, in practice everything works just fine, seems to be a total violation of the TLAR design rule, but is in fact a non problem.

Just follow the plans, shake your head at the monkey motion part, and live with it.

Thanks Guys, that explaines why I couldn't find where they were connected to the flap set up.
