Elevated Oil Temperature

Darren Kerns

Well Known Member
The last two times I have been up in my RV7 my oil temperature has been running higher than I usually see. It was indicating 195 in cruise the other day.
I was at 2500 feet & 24/2400

Yesterday morning I flew super early & climbed up to 3000 feet and it indicated 191 degrees running 24/2400.

When I entered the pattern to land, it jumped to 200 then briefly to 205 turning base leg & then immediately down to 187. This makes me think my engine ground strap is loose or dirty.

It has done it before & I found my ground strap just a tad loose in the crimp and it was dirty. Will pull the cowls tonight to check the strap again.

I will check wiring at the sender too tonight.

Is there anything else I should be looking at?????

Thanks
