electrical connectors

Wanting to configure some electrical connections for quick attach/detach. The removable overhead panel in the aerosport console, the connections to the wing, etc. I have heard of molex connectors. There may be other options. Can you point me in the correct direction/ site to look at options/parts and considerations.

Molex are nice for what you describe. Be aware there are different sizes of Molex connector. Likely .062 or .093 molex is what you would want as they are easy to work with. .062 is good for 5A and .093 is good for 8.5A.

You will need a crimper. I have one of these which work well:

You will need a pin removal tool. I have one of these which works well:

A heat shrink gun and heat shrink tubing will be needed. I have one of these which works well:

I prefer CPC connectors. They have 2 categories that I use. The smaller ones, more for signal wires and lower power applications, use the same crimp pins as d-sub connectors. The larger ones for 20-14AWG wire. I mainly use the larger ones, coming in 4, 9, 16 and 37-pin sizes, I believe. Very high quality.

+1 on these connectors ... they're a baby (read WAY cheaper) version of the MIL spec circular connectors, and lighter too given the body is plastic. The threaded ring and key slot makes getting these on and off very easy. I'm using these, too.

Thank you all for the quick replies. Just received my finish and am anxious to inventory.

Deutsch connectors

Before I found out about the Deutsch connectoors I used CPC on the wing roots.
I have Deutsch pretty much everywhere else. If you do end up using them get the proper crimper. Way better quality then the CPC or Molex.

Jessie - would you happen to have the link or part number from Mouser for pins/sockets for both the smaller and larger connectors?

BTW, one word to the wise on these CPC connectors. They will come unscrewed if you don't ensure they are fully mated and then subject them to vibration. I had all kinds of wacky intercom issues and discovered the connector, located in one of those hard-to-reach areas, had backed off. Tightened it fully and haven't had any troubles for several years since.
