EGT & CHT Probe problem?

Russ McCutcheon

Well Known Member
I have one of each that are not reading, they started by being intermittent but have degraded to the point where there steady at or below 100F. I took them off and I can test them in boiling water but wondered if there ohm value was any indication of their serviceability? Both probes have between .5 to .8 ohms resistance. Does this seem right? Does it tell us anything?

I have experienced this twice now and both times it was the connector. I cut the old one and replaced with a new one and it corrected the intermittent and low readings.

Sounds like the probes are good, the probe "juction" is just the chromel and alumel wires welded together at the probe end, low resistance means the probe is ok.

Hey Russ. How many hours do you have on the probes?

Christopher.
2000 hours that I know of, I know people preach to change them more often but if they still work and give the same readings from flight to flight and year to year as they have I'm going to keep using them.
