E.I. FP-5L to Garmin 496

Help! Wiring up EI FP-5L fuel computer interface with Garmin 496.
Would RS-232 output of the Garmin to input of FP-5L be all I would need for "fuel remaining to destination"?
Garmin also has input line and FP-5L has output line but I wouldn't think the FP-5L would have any info the Garmin would need. A little confused

Tom you are correct. No need to feed the input back to the 496. I am running this exact setup on both of our planes. You will find the fuel remaining at destination to be one of features you use every time you fly cross country.
