Dynon remote radio with hdx. Do it need the control panel?

Looking at something with a hdx and only one com in the form of the ps engineering audio panel and com radio unit. The easy solution for a second radio would be a dynon remote vhf. can it be controlled through the hdx screen or does it have to have the control panel? Panel space is tight

The remote head is required, although it can be controlled thru the screen (I never do).

So the remote head could be mounted anywhere.
