Cutting and Buffing

Quick question, when buffing the paint after cutting the orange peel with the 1500 trizac disks do you buff until the compound has gone and a shine appears?
I am not sure how you tell when to apply more compound? I have the paint looking good but not a mirror finish.
Appreciate any advice.

When in doubt add more compound. You don't want to run a dry pad.

It is not unusual to cut twice when going from 1500 grit direct to compound.

Might want to find the 3M how-to video.

I've painted and polished many aircraft for hire over the last 20 years, I usually wet sand thru 2000 then compound polish. Depending on the paint I may compound several times until satisfied. When I compound polish I start wet with a wool pad then run dry but be careful not to burn and keep the pad clean. Last I switch to a foam pad and a quality swirl remover followed by glaze. It's really a lot of fun once you get it down.

3M video link?

Ok will search for the video, so far I have been using the 3M white compound with the wool disk followed by the purple ultrafine with the blue foam disk.
