Crankshaft Corrosion

How critical is crankshaft corrosion. Opened up an O-360 A1A and found a small spot, 3/4 round, on the crankshaft large front bearing face. It is centrally located around an oil hole.

Is this a show stopper or can the corrosion be polished out???

Here is my 2cents worth.

"centrally located around an oil hole" I find that to be quite interesting.

Sounds like this engine was assembled---term used "opened up"--I.E., the crank was laid in the bearings.

Only way I can imagine something like that happening is if the corroding agent came in through the oil passage.

Makes me wonder what else that the oil passages have allowed the corroding agent to access.

Sounds like something you want to have a professional shop look at.
