Corrosion Protection - Florida

skypilotusa

I'm New Here
I have just received my Empennage Kit (RV-7)... and live in Florida.
I was hoping for some advice on protecting the aircraft.

I talked with some of the tech folks at Van's.

My options:

1.) Use Alodine method with a "NON" Self Eching Primer.

or

2.) Use a Expoxy Self Eching Primer.

I am not that familiar with some of the Eching Expoxy Primers on the market these days... I understand there are some good ones.

I have been building for two years in my shop a few hundred feet from the Banana River with a very narrow strip of a barrier island between me and the Atlantic. My only corrosion problems I have seen with anything are with the sheet steel parts that I didn't get around to priming right away.

I won't comment on what other protective measures I took (which I did take)as I would not want to influence you one way or the other. You can read the posts and make your own decision that you are comfortable with. I am only suggesting that when you get some non-protected steel parts that you prime them right away.

And if you need some rattle can zinc chromate, I have few cans for sale that I won't be using.
