Clearance between Tips

PaulR

I'm working on the emp. tips and am wondering if there is a specific clearance required between them. For instance the horiz. stab tip and the elev. tip. The "9" is different than the 7's in that the gap is not straight but angled to the rear. I have the ends filled and radiused but I'm not sure there is enough of a gap. They don't rub, even with significant forward pressure on the elevator. I read somewhere about a "quarter" test. It falls through on the left but not on the right one.

TIA

Hi Paul...

....the generally accepted practice is 1/8" or so. Some guys go as close as 1/16" in an attempt at drag reduction, ok if there's no side-to-side motion...there usually isn't as long as the bearings are in good shape.
