CHT Trend?

Hello All,
I need to install a simple CHT gauge temporarily until glass system happens. Is there a consensus of which cylinder on a O-320 generally runs the hottest. Would like to install it on that cylinder.

Oh buy the way, I'm in Nigeria training pilots on their new Citation XLS+ and have seen several RV6's from the Nigerian Air Force in the area. They are still being used as primary trainers and seem to be serving the purpose well. The Nigerians refer to the RV's as "THE BEETLE".

Thanks
Pat

It really depends on the details of your engine installation, how well each cylinder is baffled, where the oil cooler air is drawn from, whether you have any small induction leaks, etc. And the cylinder that runs the hottest today might not be the one that runs the hottest tomorrow if your engine starts to develop an issue.

Why only use a single cylinder CHT? Have you so little money invested in the engine that it it's health isn't worth the extra cost of a four cylinder CHT system?

For Test Purposes

You can get a digital Thermocouple monitor and wire a single probe under each plug. Go ahead and run a sensor from each of the cylinders. Most digital readers will read at least two thermocouples without changing the plug . Be sure the reader reads the type couple you have , most are red and white wires indicating type J . Check Omega Temp catalogue for thermocouple supplies and reader. Most are 9 vdc powered and work very well. good luck
