I?m in the process of having a new engine built by a local builder, albeit slow with all the COVID chaos going on, for a flying RV8. I?ll be converting from a certified Lycoming O-360-A4A to a Superior IO-360-B1AC2 vertical induction with a Precision Silver Hawk injection servo (I?d personally rather a horizontal sump/induction, but I?ll save that for the plane I?m building). My objective is minimize re-work on the installation, so I?ll use the same cowl, intake, etc. I?ve read a number of similar threads on this type of conversion, but I would really like to hear from someone who has traveled down a similar road, ideally with an -8. Specific questions are:
1) Will I need some sort of spacer between the servo and sump or servo and air filter box to line up with the intake on the cowl? Is the old carb and new fuel servo height the same on the Silver Hawk? If I need the spacer, what material is made of and or are they available for purchase?
2) Are there any issues/pitfalls with connecting the throttle and mixture control cables such as cowl clearance? Van?s tech support said no, but I?ve read that some have clearance issues.
3) Van's tech support suggested the VA-182-PC support bracket. Are there any specifics on the injector servo I should be concerned with (clock rotation, special control arms, linkage etc)? Now is my opportunity to change servos if necessary.
Thanks in advance for any and all/any help. Pictures of similar installs are always welcome.
