Carb Heat

I get questions from fellow pilots when they see my upper cowl removed, they ask why no carb heat box...the only answer I can come up with is that since air is drawn from inside the cowl that it's getting heated air constantly, or Bing carbs may not be prone to carb ice because of the vacumm slide configuration, although I have seen carb heat used on other light sport Rotax combinations. Anyone know the answer?

Air is always drawn from inside a warmed cowled aircraft engine.

The RV-12 with 912ULS is a very tightly cowled engine. That, coupled with Bing carb located directly behind hot cylinder heads is sufficient to prevent conditions for ice to form in throat of carb.

I like to think of 912ULS installed in the RV-12 as “Mechanical FADEC”. A single power lever without concern for mixture or carb heat…
