Canopy rivet mandrel broke with 1/4 inch protruding

Several AACQ canopy rivets broke with 1/4 inch of the mandrel protruding. The break actually occurred above the normal break point. I was going to cut them flush with the dremel, however I eventually pushed them down until flush. Of course they are now loss and some fell completely out.

Some rivets require the mandrel to remain in place for maximum strength. Is this necessary for the top bow rivets on a slider ? Of course there is considerable upward force on the canopy in flight.

Another builder had the same problem, may be a bad batch.

I am considering drilling them out, hopefully not cracking the canopy while doing this, and replacing them. Any comments !
