Budget DIY Radio Altimeter

I have a couple retail EFIS displays but also have a couple that are DIY. I am curious if anyone has experience with any sensors that might be good for 500' or so? I'm not an electronics engineer so SPI, I2C, Analog, or PWM are the only sensor interfaces that I can incorporate without going down a multi-month rabbit hole...

This is the best I can find but looks like it won't come alive until about 200'. Would love to hear of other budget-friendly sensor suggestions?
