Bolt torque

Can anybody tell me what the torque of the AN6 bolts that hold the engine mount to the firewall should be? The Standard Aircraft Handbook says 180 inch pounds (180"lb) for 3/8 24 bolts, but this seems awful light to me. Can someone point me in the right direction?? Thanks.:)

AN6 bolts are 125,000 PSI, with an AN310 nut according to the chart for tension purposes the maximum torque is 390 in/lbs.

The 160-190 limit is for bolts loaded in shear.

AN6 engine mount bolts

My manual from Vans gave recommended torque for the AN6 bolts as 160 to 190 inch/lbs. They come drilled for castle nuts and cotter pins for security.

Was confused for a minute. The original post mentioned AN5 bolt and the responses said AN6. Glanced at my scanned plans and see it's AN6 :)

Yeah, sorry, was a typo, was meant to be AN6.

No worries. You can edit your original post if you like, to prevent further confusion.

Thanks!
