Beware the Pitot Tube!

I use a bright green tennis ball with a hole drilled in it for loose fit on the tube to avoid stressing the retaining screw and detent every time I install or remove. I also put a vent hole in the ball to avoid pressure spikes on the sensor when it is installed.

I use a bright yellow tennis ball on the pitot ans stall tab. Works great
I had wounds from both

You mean like this:

With a small hole to allow pressure to equalise, sorry - 'equalize'.

(Other side says 'Nicholas Ivanoff' - one of the Red Bull Air Race pilots... ;) )

Me too

I had a mark similar on my right arm, bicep area, as I moved across the front of the plane in too big of a hurry. I then install a rubber cap, red, and it has the usual opening to avoid pressure. I also installed a "remove before flight" flag. Ouch!

I used scotchbrite to break the edges on the od of the pitot, then hung a 8"pc of (RED) shrinkwrap on it an heated the wrap till it dropped the excess 90 degrees. Works fine as protection and warning flag during preflight. No more scrapes/scratches.
