Avionics tray stack assembly

Well Known Member
I received my trays and backplates today for my radio stack. G430, xponder, audio panel.

What I want to do is assemble the stack and get my panel and sub panel properly cut and rigged up.

Can anyone please direct me to some resources for assembly/best practices instructions for assembling the stack and mounting it to the panel? I have a wiring diagram, but I don't have any instructions for the trays/plates themselves, especially mating them together and attaching to the panels.

Thanks in advance.

Here are some photos of how I did mine. I used the instructions that came with the radio etc for clearance measurments between each unit. I mounted mine to the frame of my Affordable Panels three piece panel.

Hi Myron,

There are a number of potential 'got-chas' that you need to look out for:

- Not all trays may be 6.25" wide. SL-40 trays are narrower than GNS-430 trays by about ~1/8", IIRC.

- Not all trays should be lined up at the front as different components have different bezel depths.

- There isn't a standard hole mounting pattern, either.

More details of my trials and tribulations are here.

The nice thing about standards is that there are so many to choose from!

Good luck,
