I recently helped a friend with his newly acquired -6a do an annual. He had found a leaking AN-6 fitting and discovered it way over torqued which had corrupted the sealing surface on the flare side. In his case, he drained the tanks found others the same.

Moral: the seals do not get better with more twisting so do not over torque these. Go by the specs religiously or prepare for repair that can be a pain.

Also, use the best flaring tool you can afford and use it properly.

Also, The threads on these fitting do not provide the seal like pipe threads, so don't bother to goop them up!

Often times this occurs when a poor quality flaring tool, or poor techniques are used.
It can cause a poor surface finish on the flare and it will not seal to the fitting properly. Continuing to tighten simply compresses and extrudes the tube out of the fitting.
