Akzo Nobel Green 10P4-2/EC-117S Primer

Boeing history...

I was told by Graco supply that this was the most popular and sold primer at $87.20 and was cheaper than green Akzo 463-12-8 at $97.52 per kit. The datasheet says its good for corrosion resistance where the Akzo 463-12-8 says its good for protection against leaks. Anyone ever used the 10p4-2? Both primers are used by Boeing.

They are both Boeing specs, but the 463 one is a legacy spec from the MacDonald Douglas Long Beach plant (DC-10s) and is an older spec. which still contains cadmium chromate.

The 10p4 one seems to be a Seattle spec and a later (greener?) version with no lead or cadmium in it.

Interesting note:-

The price seems to actually have come down over the last 10 years.... amazing....:)

It seems the 10p4 is designed to go on thinner (less weight?) at 0.0005 to 0.0007 inches vs 0.0010 to 0.0013 for the 463.

When I use the 463 primer, I'm impressed by how quickly I can turn over the parts to paint the other side. It seems like this might take a bit longer with the 10p4 primer - "tack free" in 2 hours, vs. "ready to stack" in 1 hour for the 463.

I would also like to hear a user report on the 10p4 - in particular whether it sprays as nicely as the 463 primer.

I was hoping some else has tried it and give a report. I will stick with what everyone else is using unless the 10p4 has a good review. I don't want to be the Ginnie pigs. :)
