AFS Transponder Check

Jpm757

Well Known Member
I have had problems with avionics shops trying to perform a VFR transponder check on my AFS 5600.
The transponder output is inhibited when the aircraft is static. If you go to the transponder config. page and turn off #11 (air data) that will inhibit the transponder. This is not a problem when performing an IFR static check as the air data function is activated with pitot static pressure.Screenshot_20240704_083938_Messages.jpg

The altitude/ground switch is intended to change the adsb-out items that are broadcast (e.g., wingspan is only sent out on the ground). But the transponder function should work in either position. If your transponder is going to Standby on the ground that is no longer legal, and needs to be changed/fixed.

You cannot test all the parameters that are part of the required tests when the xpdr is in GRD mode, so yes you can either change it in the menu or apply an airspeed.
