Advanced aircraft electronics antenna?

Well Known Member
Has anyone used the Advanced Aircraft Electronics antenna in the canopy of on RV-10?

Looking at one bonded to the fiberglass on the inside for comm and transponder.

any pireps would be appreciated.

Com and xpndr both talk to ground based stations, you will have a lot of alum between the antenna and the ground while in the air.

I did bury the ELT antenna in the cover, but then, it should not ever activate in flight, only in the event of a crash, so unless the plane flips upside down, should be OK. Works well when I did a test.

From their website

"Q. Can I use it in the plastic or fiberglass wingtip of a metal airplane ?
A. Yes, but the antenna must be as far from the metal wing as possible. We have had limited success with this. Not recommended for the RV series aircraft."

Looks like a no-go for the RV-10

Good idea Mike,
do you have pics of that? What was the orientation and location?

Thanks

Sorry, no pics.

I inserted the antenna into the foam inner liner of the headliner, it runs from the baggage bulkhead, forward, just a bit left of center. Mounted a bulkhead BNC connector to a standoff mount, and pop riveted that to the fuse bulkhead.

I can get a photo of the finished product if you want it, but no shot of the process.
