Got the new Grove legs for the 8.
I will be encasing them in the fibreglass, however, they still need protection.
Not a big job, rattle canned Acid 8 etch on - very good product.
Thought - Mmmmmm, what have I got on the shelf that's black ?
Grabbed a couple of spare tins of high temperature black - sprayed it on, they looked really sharp.
Problem was, they didn't really set hard.
Left them a couple of days - nah.
Today, I thought I would go over the bearer blocks with ordinary acrylic satin black which I have used for tail springs etc. Scotched, wiped with de greaser panel wipe - the black came off !
Did some digging - it isn't paint as we know it Jim - to paraphrase an Engineer !
Turns out it is a lacquer carrier and a carbon coating which withstands very high temperatures such as stoves, manifolds etc.
So, I am now taking all the black off of the gear legs and will use two pack.
I should be smarter than this by now - perhaps it's all the aluminum dust
